Ava Sandersen

Hey there! I’m Ava Sandersen (she/they), a fourth-year Art Education student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. This blog, Sybria, named after my online handle, is where I share my artistic journey and experiences. I have worked extensively with children ages 4-8 years old, in both after school care, and summer camps for the past few years. In addition, I have helped lead a specialty art camp for the YMCA at Rite-Hite, interned for ArtWorks MIwaukee, and assisted in teaching blacksmithing for UWM’s College for Kids program! I have also done my student teaching at Cooper Public School in MPS, and Forest Park Middle School in FPS.

My artistic interests cover a range of mediums such as painting, drawing, ceramics, and my latest love, jewelry and metals. Each exploration deepens my appreciation for the diverse forms of expression within the art world.

Navigating my academic journey, my primary goal is to become an art educator. While I’m still deciding the specific education level I want to focus on, my choice is rooted in recognizing the influential role teachers play in shaping minds and future generations. My motivation comes from a sincere desire to contribute positively to K-12 students’ development and advocate for issues impacting their lives.

As an aspiring educator, I envision a classroom environment where students can freely express themselves, free from fear or discrimination based on identity. My goals include transmitting both knowledge and passion for the arts, inspiring students to pursue artistic endeavors for personal expression or potential professional pathways.

Believing in the transformative power of art for self-expression and personal growth, my commitment lies in imparting this understanding to the next generation of artists and creative thinkers. I aim to foster an environment where they can thrive and make meaningful contributions to the world through their artistic pursuits.
